NonStep 3.0.8 by Ankle NonStep 3.0.8 by Ankle
Non|Step 3.0.8
Updated by Ankle, muhKuh, Nobby Nobbs. [2004.10.20]
Orginal by Ursula2k. [2002.08.14]

Changes from 3.0.7:
* Fixed that blasted issue with the winamp time passed/remaining label yet again.
* Added Machinae|Supremacy, Simple|Mix(by Guizmo), Classic|Blue and Classic|Pink(by V.Turn) colour schemes.
* Updated to xTaskbar 1.1.5
* Updated documentation, usage section is now complete for current features.
* Changed classic themes to have 65% alpha transparency rather than 100% from tray tinting(You can see the icons now!).
* Replaced shuffle/repeat/load buttons in resoltions less than/equal to 1152x with the position slider. Much more useful for those with low resolutions.
* Fixed themes with incorrect rainmeter background colours(meterBarBG.png).

Designed with minimalism and ease of use in mind, this interface takes functionality and efficiency to the next level for LiteStep. The theme has two taskbar styles(Classic/Neo), two taskbar modes(Top/Bottom), rainlendar/rainmeter support and skinning, lsmail support, desktop icon support(System/All/None). Includes 18 colour schemes:
- Classic: Blue, Brown, Generic, Green, Grey, Olive, Orange, Pink.
- Night: Black, Blue, Green, Purple, Red, MixBlood.
- KND: White, Vanilla.
- Dark: Blue.
- Other: Simple|Mix, Machinae|Supremacy.

View the screenshot gallery. | View the documentation.

Fully OTS2 compliant. Compatible with Windows XP/2000/ME/98 & LiteStep 0.24.7 RC3. Windows XP/2000 required for transparency affects. 1024x768 minimum resolution.

Note: The LS Installer doesn't properly handle installing more than one font, you'll have to do this manually. Just copy the font files from $LiteStepDir$themes\nonstep II\misc to $WindowsInstallDir$fonts.

Many thanks to:
- Jromo for his excelent Nonstep Visual style.
- Guizmo for his many Non|Step skins for Winamp/Trillian and Dark|Blue/Simple|Mix colour schemes.
- Garland for his KND colour schemes.
- 143lsstep for updating the orginal theme to the OTS format.
- The guys at the litestep.net forums for support with coding, feature requests, testing, additional colour schemes, and general nice-ness.
- And of course, Ursula2k for her excellent work on the orginal and coming up with the whole concept for the theme!

Matching application themes, wallpapers and more can be downloaded from the official Non|Step development site.

More updates will follow!

This is a simply wonderful theme.
However, like most litestep themes, it lacks any support for dual monitor systems. The virtual desktops spazz out and it's a right mission to get the main taskbar to even load up properly.
If there is any way you could make this dual-screen compatible, I will have finally found something that will break my two-year streak with the same theme. (Not-so-subtle-request... Please? :3)
Rock on guys!

I hope you all can keep us updated on the new version. This one works with the latest experimental version on vista. not many themes do that, so feel proud. Also, the dev site is down, which i'm sure you know of. Any way you all can provide a link to where we can go for updates/info?

hey guys .. for everone who answered lately .. if theres something that needs to be fixed or altered .. theres not gonna be any support for this version anymore!

Sorry, but currently i dont have time for that .. you have to fix it yourself if u can! Or just .. i hate to say that .. switch to some other theme :/

Work on a new version has already begun .. BUT .. it will be released when its done .. and that might still take some time .. but maybe .. maybe even before the Duke hits the shelves ;P

so long .. thanks for the fish!
Have fun with litestep!

may i ask annother question? sorry if i bother you too much. would you happen to know how, or if it is possible to make the winamp now playing on the task bar area wider? i have my winamp set to "[%artist% - ][%year% - ][%album% - ][%tracknumber% - ]$if2(%title%,$filepart(%filename%))" so i cant really see much of anything with how its scrolling slow. XD if you know how to make it wider can you let me know?

I can't believe I've never seen this before.
This is the perfect functional theme for litestep.
Whilst not the prettiest, this amazingly convenient theme more than makes up for it in having almost everything you could possibly want at hand.
Purely amazing.

You would have to change the font the theme uses with another that supports east asian languages such as Korean. Open the nonstep theme.rc and change every mention of the font "nonstep".

Thank you... but it didn't work. I still see "????". (I was able to make the font bigger and more readable though, which is niceeee) I changed my system to Korean and it displayed but, it won't display Japaneses or Chinese, which I would have also liked. (This will also cause problems with some other programs I run, and I have to restart to turn it off, so i do not like this solution.) Without setting my computer to Korean, before I used litestep/non|step, my task bar would show all of these languages. Do you have any other ideas? I have become really attached to this theme and could never dream of going back to windows classic.

It displayed Korean but not Japanese or Chinese? I'm guessing Windows uses font substitution then for different languages. I don't use Windows anymore so I can't provide much more insight into the issue. I'd recommend trying the #litestep channel on irc://irc.freenode.net

Nothing that I know of as I am no longer one of the developers. When there is news it will be on litestep.com which will be done soon(tm). When there is a new release it will be updated here as well.

exactly ... and with the new xPaintClass chances really are that even rabidVWM will now get its solid color abilities thus enabling nonstep to fully use colors instead of graphics throughout the whole theme ...
Just to explain why its taking so long: the new version aint just a menu and some clickable graphics anymore, there are hundreds of lines of code to give to user the ability to control every part of the theme via dialogs, edit boxes and even drop down boxes - u can even manipulate the themes hotkeys with just a few mouse clicks! No need to ever touch those cryptic config files anymore - not even while switching the colors for nonstep which will only require a few mouse clicks, too ... and this doesnt mean to only being able to choose between predefined color schemes ;P

so, i can only ask all of you to hang on a lil longer until u read someting like "It's DONE!" on nonsteps homepage

As far as I know, yes. Apparently it depends on some modules being fixed/completed by their respective developers before the theme can be completed. When there is any news, it will be posted on the Non|Step site.

Just downloaded Nonstep II yesterday...very nice interface. I am experiencing some problems and don't know how to get around them. Litestep just made on my computer a few weeks ago and I have most of the basics down. On to the problems...how can I always make the taskbar,systemtray...all the important things always appear on top of other windows? Everytime I maximize a window they cover the bars up. Another thing which may or may not be related to nonstep is I will always get a Netloadmodule2.dll encounted an error & litestep will crash...this happens when I try to change theme colors. I also cannot recycle nonstep without litestep crashing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

is there a safe/fast/easy way to get rid of the winamp functionality? i've been editing it away, but the best i could do was make the amp button a blank, defunct button. i'm trying to make the vol/sys/cmd take up all the space to the popup button.

nvm on that last one, i got everything tweaked now. now i have just sys/vol/cmd and they stretch to the lsbutton. i'm surprised no one has asked that before, is there any way i can post the top and bottom rc's for others to use?

Hi there, i've been using nonstep ii for a while now, and i love it.
There's only one annoying thing tho, i'm not sure if it is nonstep ii itself or a module, but i can't watch mpegs while running that theme. if the theme is changed to austerity, then it works well, but the video player window is all black, and shows up only if another window is dragged over it.
Is there anyway to fix this?
Thnx

It is an older module problem, try replacing theme.rc in \LiteStep\themes\nonstep II\ with [link] and recycling.

Hey, I really like NonStep and find it to be much more useable than the standard Explorer shell. However, there is one really annoying bug with the menus. Frequently, they will just disappear, with no sort of explanation which is. My config is NonStep 3.0.8 with all the modules downloaded automatically for it to run. I am running Windows XP Professional (32bit) on an AMD Turion notebook. If you would like further informaton (config files etc...) then these can be sent.

Anyway - keep the good work going... this shell (apart from this minor problem) is amazing.
